Sound Collection Paintings

January 27, 2026 - Present

Large scale acrylic paintings on canvas

Typically, senses work in tandem to allow people to move and react appropriately. Sometimes the body's senses do not work together. Imagine the feeling you have exiting the world's largest roller coaster. Some of your senses are muted, you may feel unbalanced, nauseated or shaky. I experience that same feeling everyday, all day as soon as my eyes open in the morning.

To cope with the instability and exhaustion my body feels, I listen to music. I feel sound more than I hear it. The beat of the drums helps me to determine what is up and what is down gravitationally, resulting in the vertical mark-making within my paintings. I use highly saturated color and thick mark-making techniques to embody the heavy beats of comfort that I feel in the music. I express the quiet safety I feel through transparent colors and loud stressful moments through opaque colors. The fluidity of my blue toned brushstrokes show my comfort, which to me feels cold. My fight or flight feeling burns through in the warmer red and yellow tones within my figuration paintings.

Music guides me through this complex dance of my painting journey, but my body's relationship to its sensory experiences is what creates my visual language. With open arms and authenticity, I invite you to experience the sense of sound with me.
